Mr. Wahala came to talk to our class about the Holocaust and all the things he did while he was growing up in Poland. He talked about living in German work camp/farm. He also talked about going through Ellis Island. We went on 2 field trips on Thursday. We visited the barnyard at the High School and then toured East Prairie. At East Prairie they talked about what we should do, how things will go for us next year throughout the school year. At the barnyard we did races on pedal tractors, planted flowers for our mothers for Mother's Day and got to see different types of farm animals. We had an inflatable party for meeting our AR goal. We had games, the jump house, and the big slide. Even Mrs. Linstead went down the slide! We made cards for our moms for Mother's Day. We got to color and made it beautiful.

This week we started reading Holocaust novels. They are Snow Treasure, Behind the Bedroom Wall, and Number the Stars. All threes stories involve children and their role in the holocaust. Mrs. Fortney told her story about growing up during WW II. She talked about what things were scarce, like sugar, tires, candy, and meat. She talked about how she and her parents had to sell their car. Mrs. Brachbill spoke about her mom's experience growing up in Germany during WWII. She talked about many of the experiences we are reading about in our novels. We learned about adverbs. These are words that describe a verb and tell how, when, and where. We made an adverb donut while we were eating a donut. |
