We read "The Emperor's New Clothes" and then we created an invoice on what new clothes the Emperor bought. We started with $1000 and then we tried to spend all of his money on clothes, jewelry, electronics, and groceries.
We did plays based on fairy tales of The Golden Goose and Little Red Riding Hood. First graders came and watched our dress rehearsal and after that we had parents and grandparents came to watch our performances. Afterwards they came to read our journal writes and see our work on fairy tales.
The whole class did fairy tale centers. There were 15 centers we had to complete and we had two weeks to complete them. Some people were fast and some were slower. We had fun reading fractured fairy tales, madlibs, read articles that compared a fairy tale to a real life situation. The final activity will be turning a drawing of our favorite fairy tale into a really cool quilt.
